Free Apps and Services to Stay Healthy and Entertained at Home 

Health Information Tool for Empowerment (HITE) recognizes that these are challenging and uncertain times for individuals and families. We have compiled a list of mental, physical health, and educational resources to help you, your patients, and clients during this time. Here are multiple healthy activities to engage in while social distancing: 

Health and Wellness:
  • Mindfulness and wellness app Aura offers three months free
  • Balance, a personalized meditation app, is offering a free one-year subscription 
  • Crunch is offering free access to its online workouts on Crunch Live for 45 days for both members and non-members
  • 8fit, a workout and meal-planning app that offers a customized plan based on your goals, is offering a 14-day free trial
  • Groupon is offering a free 60-day trial for the Daily Burn app
  • CorePower Yoga, a yoga studio chain based out of Denver, Colorado, with locations across the United States, is offering free on-demand online classes
  • Blink Fitness is hosting “Get up and Blink!,” a free virtual workout at 8:00 a.m. EST every weekday on Facebook Live
  • Nike has made all of its Nike Training Club Premium workouts free
  • The Kitchenista appetizer recipes eBook is free to download
  • The American Heart Association has created an infographic on 25 Ways to Get Moving at Home
Educational: 
  • Babbel offers free language learning for K-12 and college students
  • Skillshare is offering free two-month memberships to those with .edu and .k12 e-mail addresses, and has additional free two-month memberships based on need 
  • Coursera has classes available for free (you simply forgo getting a certificate upon completion, which you would have to pay for)
  • iTunes has free downloadable classroom materials from colleges and universities across the country
  • Literary magazine Kirkus has made all its digital subscriptions free
  • Apple Books offers a “stay at home” collection of free read-alongs for kids
  • Scribd, a subscription e-reading and audiobook service, is offering a free 30-day trial to use its services
  • The New York Public Library and Libby app are always free. If your library is closed and you never registered for a card, see if you can register online; NYPL is currently offering that option
  • Caribu—which integrates children’s books, coloring activities, and games—is free between March 24-May 24
Health Professionals:
  • Headspace, the popular guided meditation and mindfulness app, is now free for people who work in health care through the end of 2020
  • Public speaking app Speeko offers free memberships to health care and public health professions
  • Novorésumé offers free templates for resumes and cover letters
